The current thing . . .
Ongoing blog about non-ticking projects in the shop.

Have been busy finishing a Christmas gift project that I thought would take about 3 days. Like most things in life the expectation and the reality aren't always the same. This case-work (right) took about 2 weeks! I used really old cedar woods that I found in an estate sale. Didn't need any stains. The cedar was very dark and difficult to work with. Anyone who has worked with cedar understands the brittle nature and softness of this wood. Since the cabinet will hang on a wall with French cleats, the light cedar wood was a perfect choice. The balls in the case son Chas is holding are wiffle balls that I placed inside the wrapped box to add to the guessing game on Christmas morning. Those are just floating around inside the case! Finished with tung oil and Brixwax.

The Bloomfield NY Scientific Club invited me to speak about how I create my clocks. I brought the M-14 Harrison Clock along with me. A great group of really smart men! The M-14 was a hit, as you might expect. On and off the stage in under 45 minutes!

I've been busy! My old website hasn't been updated for years. I lost interest in keeping Hardwood Clocks pages current with progress in the shop because the Wordpress backend editor I was using was near impossible to figure out after a few weeks off! Loading a photograph was a seven step exercise in futility. So I decided I would rewrite the site which I never did, until now. It's been years . . . This host, Hostinger, is awesome. Before I found this host I was all over the map looking for a website editor that I didn't have to take another masters course to learn. WordPress, Wix, etc. As it turns out, I was also looking to replace Netfirms, my Canadian server host that was too unreliable and expensive. I got both problems resolved in one switch. A Host with an editor that sports a really useful AI interface. Only took a few days to completely rewrite the main Hardwood Clocks site and include content. The Hostinger editor is easy to learn and the AI included is uber useful. Highly recommend this host to anyone looking to make a change. Oh, and did I mention I took their black Friday deal and got 4 years of basic hosting for under $100! It's off to the races.

Getting ready to give a presentation to the Bloomfield Scientific Group. The topic is Complications Building Wooden Wheels Clocks. I have a little in this topic! Here's my brief outline:
This is a well educated group so, I have to be very careful not be overly simplistic in my approach. I will likely concentrate on gear production as mine methods are described by most woodworkers as masochistic! I'll bring the grasshopper clock (M-14) to the meetup. That should gather some attention! Will post after the presentation.
